In the basins and plateaus of Arizona lie numerous
districts where the climate and soil formation are conducive to the growth of
world class vinifera varietal wine grapes.
The Vineyard is location: 20 miles N. of Wilcox, AZ on
the South slope of Mt Graham at an elevation of 4400 ft. The vineyard was
planted in 1990 & 1991.
The ranch is 160 acres which has 40 acres producing vineyards, 10 more acres of
newly planted vines, and 10 more acres ready for planting in 2008; 5 acres of
pistachios, steel barn, 2 homes, and a well which is used for irrigation.
The soil is sandy clay loam with a pH 7 and the water
is pH 7 pure and can be bottled. The well pumps 750 gals per minute and we are
currently installing a new 125hp electric motor, new filter, and underground
irrigation line.
The farm has management and a full time employee on
site that have been with the company for 14 years. We also bring in a crew when
needed for pruning, etc.
We are growing many different wine grape varietals successfully, some of which
are used by Kokopelli Winery. The varietals are: Cabernet Sauvignon,
Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer, Merlot, Muscat, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Noir, Riesling,
Sangiovese, & Zinfandel.
Harvest occurs early September and we do machine
harvest at night and haul in the morning before much change can take place with
the quality of the grapes. |
